Funeral services for Gerald D. Johnson age 97 of Wisner, NE will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of Christ in Wisner, NE with Pastor Les Parmenter officiating. Masonic Rites will be held on Saturday during the ceremony at church. Interment with Military Honors will be in the Wisner Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner, NE and will continue on Saturday from noon until the time of the service at the church.

Gerald passed away on Monday, December 24, 2018 at the Wisner Care Center.
Gerald Duane Johnson was born on December 2, 1921 on a farm north of Wisner, NE to John and Agnes (Shirreffs) Johnson. He was baptized on June 11, 1922 at the Congregational Church in Wisner and joined the church on April 23, 1943. Gerald attended country school and graduated from Wisner High School in 1939. He was employed at the Risser Hatchery prior to leaving for the service. Gerald served in the United States Navy from 1943-1946, before being honorably discharged. Upon returning home he began working for Otto Albers on his turkey farm.
On December 25, 1947, he was united in marriage to Lois Olson at the Wisner Methodist Parsonage. The couple lived on a farm south of Wisner prior to moving into Wisner in 1971. Gerald had also worked at the Albers Dehy and the City of Wisner prior to his retirement.
Gerald was a member of the United Methodist Church of Christ in Wisner, had served on its Board of Trustees, was a life member of Wisner V.F.W. Post #5767, had been a Mason for over 70 years, as a member of Wisner Masonic Lodge #114 and Northern Light Masonic Lodge #41 in Stanton, he had received the Jordan Medal in April of 2002, and was a member of Wayne Order of Eastern Star Chapter #194. Gerald had served on a country school board, was a former 4-H leader, had served as an assistant Boy Scout leader, and had belonged to the Wisner Saddle Club for many years. Gerald loved horses and going fishing.
