Obituary for Dorothy Oswald

Funeral services for Dorothy (Mrs. Sam) Oswald age 90 of West Point, NE will be held on Monday, September 29, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Beemer Mennonite Church. Interment will be in the Beemer Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. and will continue on Monday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service, both at the Beemer Mennonite Church. Minnick Funeral Home in West Point is in charge of the arrangements.

Dorothy passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at the St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point, NE.

Dorothy Louise Oswald was born on February 13, 1924 near Beaver Crossing, NE to Mose K. and Ida (Schweitzer) Erb. She attended rural school near Shickley, NE through 8th grade. When Dorothy was 14, her mother passed away, so she helped her father take care of her seven brothers and sisters who were still living at home. On October 24, 1950, she was united in marriage to Sammie Oswald in Shickley, NE. Sammie and Dorothy made their home on a farm west of West Point and they farmed for the next 54 years. In 1962, they purchased a farm west of Oakland and lived there until retiring in 2004 and moved into West Point.

Dorothy was a member of the Beemer Mennonite Church and enjoyed quilting with the Mennonite Women as long as she was able. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, baking, and singing as she worked. Dorothy especially loved her grandchildren and was always eager to babysit for them when they were young.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, sisters-Elsie Heyen, Mary Erb, Mattie and husband Roy Troyer, Gladys and husband Lester Troyer, Wilma and husband Ivan Troyer, Robert Erb, Alvin Erb and Virgil Erb, and in-laws Ralph Oswald and Leslie Kaufman
