Gilbert  Ernesti, Jr.
Mass of Christian Burial for Gilbert Ernesti, Jr., age 74 of West Point, NE will be on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church-Aloys, rural West Point, NE. Interment with Military Honors will be in St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the GA Cafeteria following the burial. Visitation will be on Tuesday from noon to 4:00 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in West Point, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church-Aloys, and will continue on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. There will be a public Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the church.

Gilbert passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at Premier Estates of West Point.

Gilbert Conrad Ernesti, Jr. was born on September 9, 1942 in West Point, NE to Gilbert and Marie (Buse) Ernesti. He attended St. Aloysius Catholic School and graduated from Guardian Angels High School in 1960. He served in the United States Army Reserves from 1960-1962 and was called to active duty in 1961, during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

On January 11, 1964, he was united in marriage to Kathleen Burenheide at St. Henry’s Catholic Church, rural Howells, NE. The couple farmed east of Aloys until 1984. Gilbert later was a salesman for Lubker’s Ford, sold Agri King Seed and custom fed hogs. In 2006, they moved into West Point and Gilbert worked for the City of West Point.

Gilbert was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point. He was a former member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, where he had served on the school board and as a trustee.

He enjoyed collecting Oliver tractors, listening to Polka music, and attending the grandchildren’s activities.

Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters-Janith Casey, Juliana Meister, and Karen Schroeder.
