Obituary for Virgil Marik

Mass of Christian Burial for Virgil Marik age 78 of Howells, NE will be on Monday, February 27, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Nepomucene Catholic Church in Howells, NE. Interment with Military Rites will be in the St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and will continue on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the church. There will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00 p.m. followed by a Vigil Service on Sunday at the church. Minnick Funeral Home in Dodge is handling the arrangements for the family. The family suggests that memorials be directed to the Marik Scholarship, Howells Fire, Howells Rescue, or Howells Ballroom.

Virgil passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at the Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home in Bellevue, NE.

Virgil Joseph Marik was born March 15, 1938 at Howells, NE to Rudy and Norma (Pinker) Marik. He attended Cuming Co. Rural School and graduated from Howell High School in 1956. Virgil served in the the United States Army from 1957-1959 and was honorably discharged.

Virgil was united in marriage to Joyce Kirker on December 12, 1959 at St. John’s Nepomucene Catholic Church in Howells, NE. The couple farmed and raised hogs north of Howells, until retiring from farming in 1986. They operated V & J Antiques and Collectibles, traveling all over the country attending antique and craft shows. After Joyce passed away on August 25, 2000, Virgil went to work for Smeal Fire Apparatus in Synder, NE, retiring in 2009.

Virgil was a member of St. John’s Nepomucene Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Pope John XXIII Council #5439 of Howells, and the Cuming Co. Pork Producers. He was very active in 4-H when his kids were younger. He enjoyed going to auctions, listening to polka music, and attending his Army reunions.

Survivors include-
Daughter- Sandra Marik of Norfolk, NE
Son- Kevin Marik of Howells, NE
Sister- Doris Dufek of Norfolk, NE
Aunt- Virginia Pinker of Omaha, NE

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, wife, twin infant sisters- Irene and Norma at birth, and brother-in-law- John Dufek.
