Obituary for Melvin Long

Funeral services for Melvin Long age 94 of Beemer, NE will be on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Beemer, NE. Interment will be in the Beemer Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in Beemer and will continue on Wednesday from noon until the time of the service at the church.

Melvin passed away on Friday, March 6, 2015 at the Colonial Haven Nursing Home in Beemer, NE.

Melvin LeRoy Long was born on September 20, 1920 at Beemer, NE to Harvey and Laura (Frahm) Long. He was baptized at the Congregational Church in Beemer, NE. Melvin attended Cuming Co. Rural School and attended Beemer High School. He began farming with his father near Beemer prior to marriage. On August 4, 1940, he was united in marriage to Helen L. Glaubius in West Point, NE. The couple farmed near Beemer and in 1981 moved into Beemer. Helen passed away on November 13, 2012.

Melvin was a member of the United Methodist Church in Beemer, serving as Liturgist and on the church board, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star for 50 years. He served on the Logan Township Board for 25 years, School Board for 25 years, Rural Fire Board as President for many years until moving into Beemer, and was a Community ASC Committee member.

Melvin enjoyed fishing, playing cards, attending coffee at the Beemer Roundtable and spending time with his family.

Daughter- Julie and husband Sam Seevers of Lincoln, NE
4 Grandchildren 7 Great Grandchildren
2 Step Grandchildren 1 Step Great Grandchildren

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents-Harvey and Laura Long, his parents-in-law-Theodore and Viva Glaubius, and a sister- Merna and husband Leslie Glaubius.
