Mary Kay Uraga, age 69, of Omaha, Nebraska, died of complications from a heart attack on Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha, NE.

She was born April 5, 1945, in West Point, Nebraska, the second of nine children born to Gerald and Sophie Ann (Wisnieski) McGuire of Wisner, Nebraska. Mary Kay attended Wisner Public Schools and graduated in 1963. In 1967, she graduated with honors from the College of St. Mary in Omaha where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in medical technology. She received advanced training at St. Louis University and worked at both private and military hospitals in medical technology, microbiology, and immunohematology. She was a licensed real estate agent in two states.

Mary Kay married Dr. Nick Uraga, a graduate of Creighton University School of Medicine, in 1971. They lived in Nebraska, Missouri, Mississippi, Washington, and Greece. They adopted a daughter, Elizabeth, born in 1979. She returned to Nebraska where she worked as a realtor and wrote for Omaha Magazine and the Norfolk Daily News. An animal lover, she was an avid equestrienne and an amateur show jumper at one time. She loved music, gardening, country dancing, reading and, especially, family events. Mary Kay was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wisner. Throughout her life, she prayed and advocated for the poor, the sick, and the forgotten. She saw God's love and grace expressed in everyday miracles.
