Alfred Joseph Batenhorst was born on September 14, 1931, in West Point, Nebraska, the son of Alfred and Helen (Volgeltanz) Batenhorst. Alfred attended Beemer Public High School graduating in 1951. After high school he joined the Army attending basic training in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and was stationed in Fort Richardson, Alaska. He married Georgia Lee Engelhardt on September 29, 1953, and lived in Anchorage, Alaska for one year. While in Anchorage they welcomed their first child.

Following two years of military service, Alfred and Georgia returned home in 1954. Two years later they purchased Georgia’s parents farm and resided there until 1985 when they sold the farm and moved to Beemer. Alfred then embarked on a sales career at KTIC AM 84 Radio in West Point. From early on it was apparent that Alfred had a gift for sales, and he quickly became one of their top sales agents.

Alfred was foremost a devoted husband and proud father. He and Georgia shared 69 years of marriage raising ten children. He was an active member of Beemer Holy Cross parish participating in Choir and numerous church activities and was a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus.

He enjoyed attending sporting events, entertaining, playing cards with family and friends, traveling to Casinos, and visiting family. He and Georgia took many trips with highlights including Florida, California, Hawaii, and Alaska.
