Obituary for Donald Tomka

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Donald L. Tomka age 83 of West Point, NE will be on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church-Olean with Fr. Matt Gutowski as celebrant. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the St. Wenceslaus Parish Hall in Dodge, NE. Visitation will be on Monday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a public Vigil Service and Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00 p.m., and will continue one hour prior to the service, all at the church. Minnick Funeral Home in West Point is assisting the family with the arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation in Don's name.
Don passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at his home.
Donald Lee Tomka was born March 9, 1939 at Howells, NE to Jerome and Gladys (Vrba) Tomka and grew 3 miles south of Aloys. He attended Cuming Co. Rural School District #18, Dodge Grade School and graduated from Dodge High School in 1956. Don served in the Nebraska Army National Guard.
On August 8, 1963, he was united in marriage to Kathleen Ernesti at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Aloys. They moved to a farm ΒΌ mile north of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Olean, the farm was in Cuming County, they farmed for 52 years and upon retirement moved to West Point, NE. Farming and raising livestock were his pride and joy. Don loved going to farm sales and taking care of his John Deere tractors.
Donald was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and served as a trustee for several years. He belonged to the Howells Knights of Columbus Council #5439, served on the Coop board, and was an officer for the Lincoln Township Board for over 40 years.
Don loved to fish, was on the Olean bowling team for many years, and he loved watching his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren play sports.
