Obituary for Iona Vakiner
Funeral services for Iona Vakiner age 85 of Dodge, NE will be on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Scribner, NE with Pastor Bruce Schut officiating. Interment will be in the St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery in Snyder, NE. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Minnick Funeral Home in West Point is handling the arrangements.
Iona passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Franciscan Healthcare in West Point, NE.
Iona Sophia Vakiner was born July 7, 1937 to William and Anna (nee Kroenke) Vakiner at rural Snyder, NE. She was baptized on October 3, 1937 at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Dodge and was confirmed on April 3, 1966 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Snyder. Iona remained active in church activities all of her life.
Iona attended rural school District #45 at rural Dodge. She lived southwest of Dodge since 1958, with her brothers, Homer, Lloyd, and Delwyn. She was a life-time homemaker for her brothers, loving to garden, caring for small animals, and caring for their home.
Iona left the farm in 1999, living in North Star group homes in Oakland and Lyons, for nearly ten years. She became a resident of Parkview Home in Dodge in September of 2009, until now.
Iona is survived by a niece Marcine Austin and nephew Myron Reimon, both of Melrose, MN and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her siblings, sister Margaret Reimon, and brothers, Homer, Lloyd, and Delwyn Vakiner.
