Obituary for Doris (Dotty) Batenhorst

Mass of Christian Burial for Doris A. "Dotty" Batenhorst age 90 of West Point, NE will be on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in West Point, NE with Fr. Matt Niggemeyer as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in West Point, with a Christian Mother's, Catholic Daughter's and Guild Rosary at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in West Point from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m.

Dotty passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at Franciscan Healthcare in West Point, NE.

Doris Ann (Sendgraff) Batenhorst was born June 16, 1932 on the family farm south of West Point, NE to Henry and Gertrude (Kassmeier) Sendgraff. Dotty attended Cuming County Rural Schools and Guardian Angels, graduating from Guardian Angels High School in 1950. She worked at Baumann’s Department Store and later worked at 1st National Bank, which became NBC, retiring after 40 years.

On February 16, 1955, she was united in marriage to Anthony “Tony” Batenhorst at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point, NE.

Dotty helped clean St. Mary’s Rectory for 8 years, and volunteered at St. Joseph’s Retirement Community. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic, it’s Ladies Guild, serving as Treasurer for 6 years and volunteered with the CCD program. Dotty was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary, serving as Secretary for 2 years and chaired the Hospital Bazaar for 4 years. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary and Ladies Fireman’s Auxiliary. Dotty took up golfing and bowling in retirement, enjoying playing golf in surrounding communities and being a member of the Reracks bowling team. She enjoyed reading books, and especially being outdoors tending to her garden and flowers and spending time on her patio in her swing. Dotty loved her family dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents-Henry and Gertrude Sendgraff, husband-Tony Batenhorst, and siblings-Norbert and Elsie Sendgraff, Ray Sendgraff, Don Sendgraff, and Mary and Babe Wiese.
