Obituary for Dorothy A. Batenhorst

Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy A. Batenhorst age 97 of West Point, NE will be on Monday, June 5, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in West Point, NE with Fr. Matt Niggemeyer as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the GA Cafeteria. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. with a Christian Mother's Rosary at 3:00 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home.

Dorothy Antoinette (Clausen) Batenhorst of West Point, 97 years old, passed away peacefully at
St.Joseph Hillside Villa in West Point, Nebraska on January 26, 2023.
She was born to the late Lloyd and Louise (Hermann) Clausen in West Point and graduated from
West Point High School. Dorothy lived most of her life in just two houses on a block in the Third
Ward.
In August 1950 she was united in marriage with the late Chris Batenhorst at St. Mary’s Catholic
Church and was a devoted and loving wife throughout their 70 year marriage. Dorothy was a
devout member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was an active member of the St. Mary’s
Guild, Christian Mothers and Funeral Ministry.
Dorothy was an incomparable homemaker who focused on her family while juggling other jobs
and activities in the community. She was immensely proud of her family, and leaves behind
nothing but beautiful memories. She was thoughtful and encouraging to everyone. Dorothy was
employed at JC Penny in West Point for nearly 25 years where she delighted in helping families
prepare for holidays, new school years and events of daily living with catalogue purchases. She
also volunteered with many organizations in town including as a poll worker for elections.
Dorothy was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and volunteered many years at the VFW for
events/meals.
She is survived by four children: Michael (Nancy) Batenhorst of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Daniel
(Reiko) Batenhorst of Okinawa, Japan; Randal (Alice) Batenhorst of Raleigh, North Carolina;
Mary Batenhorst of Maricopa, Arizona and special friend JoAnn Dankert; daughter-in-law Chong
(Terry) Batenhorst of Rocklin, California; siblings Bernice Seward of Deltona, Florida, Ann Wolff
of West Point, and Jim (Doris) Clausen of West Point; 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren
and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was predeceased by her loving husband in 2021, and by her parents Lloyd and Louise
Clausen; son, Terry Batenhorst; sisters, Kathleen (Kate) Wagner and Ardene Wolff; and infant
granddaughter Naomi Batenhorst.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that you donate to a charity of your choice. Funeral
services will be held at a later date.
The family extends a special thank you to the St. Joseph Hillside Villa and Franciscan Healthcare
Hospice staff for their excellent care and support during Dorothy’s illness.
