Obituary for Cathy Groene
Funeral services for Cathy (Mrs. Robin) Groene age 72 of Howells, NE will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at the Howells Ballroom in Howells, NE with interment in the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery. A lunch will follow at the Howells Ballroom. Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in West Point, NE and will continue one hour prior to service on Saturday.
Cathy left this earth on Monday, November 21, 2022 at her home after battling ovarian cancer to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Cathy J. (Vakiner) Groene was born September 23, 1950 in West Point, NE to Clifford C. and Alice M. (Woerner) Vakiner. Cathy graduated from Snyder High School in 1968. She gave up furthering her education to be united in marriage to Robin Groene on August 3, 1968 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Snyder, NE. The couple lived in Brewster, NE for 3 years. The family moved to Howells, NE in 1972.
Cathy helped with the family finances by working at Bill’s Food Mart, working as a dental assistant and the last position she held was a para-educator at Howells Community Catholic Schools. She served as President of the Howells Library Board, was a member of the United Methodist Church in Oakland, NE and an affiliated member of the Estes Park United Methodist Church, where she served on the Congregational Care Team.
Cathy loved being a wife, mom, grandmother and great grandmother. She also looked forward to Spring, so she could be outside working in the yard or just being outside enjoying God’s great outdoors. Cathy was a very caring person, she never put herself ahead of anyone. She and her family spent many summers in Estes Park, CO. Cathy and Robin worked part-time for several years in Estes Park and fulfilled her lifetime dream of visiting Hawaii.

Cathy was preceded in death by her parents-Clifford and Alice Vakiner, son-Ryan Groene, and brother-Clifford (Bud) Vakiner and brother-in-law-Delwin Smeal.
