Georgia passed away on October 23, 2022, surrounded by her family at St. Joseph’s Hillside Villa Nursing facility.

Georgia was born on February 22, 1934, in Beemer, Nebraska, the daughter of Edwin and Emma (Brasch) Engelhardt. Georgia attended Beemer Public High School graduating in 1951. After high school she attended Airline Flight Attendant school in Omaha, NE, but decided flying the friendly skies was not for her. She worked for Farmers Cooperative in West Point as an Administrative Assistant until following the love of her life, Alfred Batenhorst Jr. to Alaska to be married. They were married in Fort Richardson, Alaska on September 29, 1953, and lived in Anchorage, Alaska for one year. While in Anchorage she worked for the Alaskan News Agency, and they welcomed their first child.

Alfred and Georgia returned home in 1954. Two years later Al and Georgia purchased Georgia’s parents farm and resided there until 1982 when they sold the farm and moved to Beemer.

Georgia was foremost a mother and homemaker devoting her life to her husband and family of 10 children. She was an active member of Beemer Holy Cross parish participating in Alter Society, Lector duties and other church activities. Georgia worked at Peet’s Feed in Beemer as an Administrative Assistant for 20 years.

She enjoyed attending sporting events, entertaining, playing cards with family and friends, baking (cinnamon rolls in the freezer seemed to disappear….), traveling to Casinos and visiting family. She and Alfred took many trips with highlights including Florida, California, Hawaii, and Alaska.

Georgia was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Emma Engelhardt, and sisters, Dorothy (Pieper) and June Engelhardt and daughters, Mary Elizabeth (infant who died at birth), and Linda Jensen, daughter-in-law Debra (Loseke) and grandchild Nicole Kosch.
