Obituary for Mike McTaggart

Mass of Christian Burial for Mike McTaggart age 80 of Beemer, NE will be on Monday, March 8, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Beemer with Fr. Vincent Sunguti as celebrant. Military Honors will follow mass at the church. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Emerson following a luncheon at the Beemer Ballroom. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a Vigil Service and Rosary at 5:00 p.m., and will continue on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Beemer. Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner is assisting with the arrangements.

Masks will be required be worn while attending the visitation and funeral. The service on Monday will be live streamed at www.facebook.com/minnickfuneralserviceinc.

Mike passed away on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at Franciscan Healthcare in West Point, NE.

Michael Wendel McTaggart was born on May 26, 1940 on the family farm east of Emerson, NE to Thomas V. and Catherine (Liewer) McTaggart. He graduated in 1959 from Sacred Heart High School in Emerson, NE. He served in the United States Army from 1959 until being honorably discharged in 1962.

On October 25, 1966, he was united in marriage to Virginia Oligmueller in Vermillion, SD. Mike was engaged in farming and raising livestock. Mike and Jeanie had lived in Sioux Falls, SD, Des Moines, IA before moving to Beemer, NE in 1995.

Mike was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, where he served as an EME and helped with leading the rosary at Colonial Haven Nursing Home. He was a member of American Legion Post #159, delivered meals on wheels. A joy over the years for Mike and Jeanie, was sponsoring foster children all over the world. Mike enjoyed gardening, canning, and sharing his produce. He was an avid Nebraska Football fan and New York Yankee baseball fan.

His in laws- Dorothy Mendlik of Denison, IA
Virgil and Rita Oligmueller of Jackson, NE
Bernie Oligmueller of West Point, NE
Numerous nieces and nephews also survive him.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents-Thomas V. and Catherine McTaggart, step-son-Doug Temple, brothers- Thomas and Daniel McTaggart, and in-laws- Beata and Tom Prinz, Francis Oligmueller, and Richard Mendlik.
