Obituary for Genevieve Hass

Mass of Christian Burial for Genevieve C. Hass age 90 of West Point, NE will be held on Monday, December 21, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in West Point, NE. Private family interment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Beemer, NE. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Beemer, with a Vigil Service at 5:00 p.m., and will continue on Monday one hour prior to the service at St. Mary's Catholic Church in West Point, NE. Minnick Funeral Home in West Point is assisting the family with the arrangements.

We ask that everyone wears a mask and seating will be socially distanced by households. The Vigil Service and Funeral Mass will be livestreamed at www.facebook.com/minnickfuneralserviceinc .

Genevieve passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at St. Joseph's Hillside Villa in West Point, NE.

Genevieve Clara (Guenther) Hass was born on May 13, 1930 to Herman and Rose (Gentrup) Guenther on the family farm rural Bancroft, NE. She attended Cuming County Rural School District #21 and graduated from Guardian Angels High School in 1947. After high school she worked for a law firm in Lincoln, NE before returning to Beemer and working at Bertha’s Café, where she met Arvid L. Hass.

On May 17, 1950, she and Arvid were united in marriage at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Beemer, NE. They lived in Beemer, where they raised their family of boys. Gen worked at the Beemer School in the kitchen and as a custodian for many years. After Arvid L. passed away in 2005, Gen moved to West Point in 2006.

Gen was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and its Altar Society. Gen was a very prayerful woman, always praying the rosary and watching masses on the television. She loved to cook, cross-stitch and sew. Gen loved spending time visiting with family and friends.

She is survived by her sons and their families-

Gen was preceded in death by her parents-Herman and Rose Guenther, husband-Arvid L. Hass, infant daughter-Mary, infant son-Byron, sons-Gary in 1970, and Mark in 2016, siblings-Kenneth Guenther, Dolores (Martin) Ulrich, Rosalee Guenther, Herman (Pat) Guenther, Mary Ann (Elton) Kind, Richard Guenther, sister-in-law-Janice (Vernon) Balak, and a brother-in-law-Ron (Caroline) Hass.
