Obituary for Gilbert Thies
Funeral services for Gilbert W. Thies age 86 of Winside, NE will be held on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pilger, NE with Pastor Timothy Booth officiating. Interment with Military Honors will be in the Wisner Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. The funeral will be live-streamed on the Minnick Funeral Service Facebook page at www.facebook.com/minnickfuneralserviceinc Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Gilbert passed away on Friday, November 20, 2020 at Kinship Pointe of Wayne, NE.
Gilbert William Thies was born on June 11, 1934 to Henry and Ida (Becker) Thies on the family farm northwest of Wisner, NE. He was baptized at First Thinity Lutheran Church-Altona and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pilger, NE. Gilbert attended Cuming County Rural School District #40. He began farming with his father. Gilbert served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956 and after being honorably discharged, he returned to farm with his father.
In 2011, Gilbert moved into Pilger, NE. After the tornado hit Pilger in 2014, he moved to Winside, NE. Gilbert was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pilger, and American Legion Post #252 of Winside, NE. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Sister-Armeda Wascher of Omaha, NE
Along with several nieces, nephews and their families.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents-Henry and Ida Thies, sister-Ellen Renner, and brothers-Virgil, Arland, Alvin and Eldon Thies.
