Joseph John Oligmueller, 86, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 6th at Franciscan Healthcare in West Point surrounded by his loving family.

Joe was born to Joseph Sr. and Mary (Ortmeier) Oligmueller in Beemer, NE on September 15, 1934. He attended St. Boniface school in Monterey Nebraska and until his marriage, he worked on the family farm. On May 10, 1955 he married Caroline Sellhorst at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Olean, Nebraska and they recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. They continued farming throughout their marriage and currently live west of West Point on the family farm. Joe and Caroline are members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where Joe served on various church committees and was a third-degree Knights of Columbus member.
Joe loved softball and baseball. He spent over 40 years playing fast pitch softball for various teams in the area and pitched his last game at the age of 60. He had a few no-hitters throughout his career. He also spent many years coaching softball and the KC little league teams.

Joe enjoyed spending time with his family and every holiday they would break out a deck of cards to play highly competitive rounds of pitch. They also enjoyed playing cards with friends and family throughout the years and at family weddings there would always be a friendly game of sheephead being played during the reception. He loved woodworking and made decorative cabinets, quilt racks and Christmas creches. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and airboating on the Elkhorn river. The family remembers summer vacations fishing various lakes in South Dakota, Minnesota and the surrounding areas.

Joe is survived by his wife Caroline, children Brenda (Jim) Leise of Omaha, Patricia Oligmueller of Seattle, WA, Gail (Aaron) Raabe of Omaha, Brian (Tanya) Oligmueller of Beemer and Lisa (Jeff) Petet of DeForest, WI, 13 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, siblings, Norbert (Delores) Oligmueller, Marian Bracht and Rita Throener all of West Point.

He is preceded in death by infant children, his parents, in laws, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law and nephews.
