Obituary for Bill Gier
Private family funeral services for William "Bill" Gier age 61 of Davenport, IA will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner, NE. Live-streaming of the service can be found at www.facebook.com/minnickfuneralserviceinc. Interment will be in the Wisner Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner, NE. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be directed to the American Diabetes Association or the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation in Bill's name.
Bill passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at his home.
He was born in Yankton, SD on September 11, 1958, son of Wendell "Dean" and Betty Gier. He graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1976 and went on to earn a business degree from Wayne State College in 1981. While at Wayne State he was a proud brother of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity and began dating his wife, Debra (Stueve) Gier. They married on August 15, 1981 in Wisner, NE and were married for 26 years until Debra's premature death in 2008.
Bill worked for Kmart/Sears company for 35 years. He enjoyed camping, golfing, bowling, following his favorite sports teams of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Minnasota Twins and Vikings, and being Papa to his grandchildren. He was unwavering in the love, kindness, and generosity to his wife, family and friends.
He was survived by children, Andrew Gier (spouse Tawnya) and Holly Thorpe (spouse Ross) and 3 grandchildren, Jackson Gier, and Lacey and Eliza Thorpe. Along with brother, Robert, and sister, Mary and their spouses and many other loved family members.
Bill was preceded in death by wife Debra, parents Dean and Betty Gier, sister Kay McManigal.
