Obituary for Marcia Beck
Funeral services for Marcia (Mrs. Wayne) Beck age 67 of rural Dodge, NE will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in West Point, NE. Masks are required for the service with social distanced seating by household being observed. Live streaming of the service can be found at www.facebook.com/minnickfuneralserviceinc. Interment will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery in West Point, NE. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with masks required, at the Minnick Funeral Home in West Point and will continue one hour prior to service time at the church.
Marcia passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at CHI-Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, NE.

The cardinal bird is also known for representing celebration, rejuvenation, hope, health, and joy. People who decided to hold this bird close to them can even be considered as special kinds of people. They are energetic and rare and are among those who are eager to take care and help those who are in need.
If there ever was a person who embodied the life of a cardinal, it was Marcia Jean Beck.
Marcia Jean Skiles was born on July 2, 1953 in Alma, NE to Melvin and Lois (Ulmer) Skiles. The second child of four, she was raised in a family full of sports, community, and service. Marcia was baptized and confirmed at Alma Methodist Church by Rev. Charles Gates. Marcia graduated from Alma High School in 1971, solidifying her status as a member of the Alma Cardinals for life. It was during her schooling Marcia developed a life-long love and passion for music, especially singing. For her whole life, if there was music involved, she was part of it.
For her career, Marcia leaned into her love of service to others. She attended the Mary Lanning Nursing School in Hastings and graduated in 1974. She was then employed as a nurse at the Fremont Hospital for 44 years, working in multiple departments with long service in the Emergency and Outpatient Departments. She retired from nursing in May of 2018.
She married Wayne Harold Beck June 5, 1976 in a rowdy celebration of love in Alma. They settled on a farm outside Dodge where they raised their four children, Laura, Rachel, Curtis, and Melissa.
Throughout her married life, her passion for service focused on the community at St. Paul Lutheran Church and School in West Point. She was a member of the church choir singing the soprano role which could be heard in every rafter of the sanctuary. Marcia was a member of the School Board, serving a term as President, a Sunday School teacher, and an LWML member.
During her “empty nest years” she became active with The West Point Community Theater, volunteering at numerous events and holding acting, but more importantly, singing roles in five musical performances. She also became a member of The Heavenly Hens Choir who gave her a new-found spiritual community and strong friendships. Her hobbies included attending musical theatre productions, taking long road trips across the North American Continent with her family, yardwork, gardening, baking, playing cards, and trivia. If you got to know Marcia well enough, you’d learn about her deep knowledge and love of the State of Nebraska, its people, sport teams, history and geography.
The last six years of her life she met the five parts of her heart who are her grandchildren. Being called “Ga-Ga” or “Grandma Marcia” brought her to tears and the love and joy she found spending time with them truly made her sing to the Lord with thanks and praise.
On the day of her death, her sister used the following words in tribute to Marcia, “Here’s to the bridge-builders, the hand-holders, the light-bringers, those extraordinary souls wrapped in in ordinary lives, who quietly weave threads of humanity in an inhumane world.”
Marcia was an extraordinary person who celebrated life in its fullest. Those of us who were lucky enough to know Marcia are aware we were in the presence of one of God’s most awesome creation, a true cardinal.
Marcia is preceded in death by her parents, Melvin & Lois of Alma, father and mother-in-law Harold and Ruth Beck of Snyder, and daughter Laura Renee Beck. Leaves to mourn brothers Ron (Carolyn) and Duane (Denise) Skiles and their families in North Platte. Sister, Linda (Kevin) Skiles Hadduck and family of Helena, MT. Sisters-in-law Janet (Richard) Kirch of Fremont, Marilyn (Jim) Hoover of Louisville and their families. Her husband; Wayne Harold Beck of Dodge. Her children; Rachel Lynn Beck of Omaha, Curtis Wayne (Apryl) Beck of Dodge, and Melissa Lea (Steven) Hunke of Hooper. Her five grandchildren: James, Alexander, and Thomas Beck; Caroline and Patrick Hunke.
