Obituary for Leonard Neesen

Mass of Christian Burial for Leonard Neesen age 88 of West Point, NE will be on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church-Aloys, rural West Point, NE with Fr. Steve Emanuel officiating. Socially distanced seating by households will be observed at Mass and the Vigil Service. Interment with Military Honors will be in the St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at Native 32 Winery following the committal. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a Public Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m., and will continue on Wednesday one hour prior to service, both at the church. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation in Leonard’s name. Minnick Funeral Home in West Point is handling the arrangements.

Leonard passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at St. Joseph's Hillside Villa in West Point, NE.

Leonard Joseph Neesen was born at home near Aloys, NE to Claus and Elizabeth (Ernesti) Neesen. He attended St. Aloysius Catholic School until the 8th grade. He helped on the family farm until he was drafted. On January 1, 1953 he began serving in the United States Army as a heavy equipment operator during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on November 4, 1953.

Leonard returned to the farm and later worked part-time for Aloys Transfer.

He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4912 in West Point, NE.

Leonard enjoyed fishing when he was younger, he attended many baseball games in the area, and spent time playing cards at the Aloys Store.

Brother-Lavern Neesen of West Point, NE
Brother-in-law-Dave Mandel of West Point, NE
Several nephews and nieces also survive him.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Claus and Elizabeth Neesen, and sisters- Martha and her husband Norbert Schorn and Gladys Mandel.
