Obituary for Vicky L. Craig
Memorial services for Vicky (Mrs. Edward) Craig age 69 of West Point, NE will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in West Point, NE with Fr. Steve Emanuel officiating. Socially distanced seating by households will be observed with a maximum capacity of 80 for the service. Interment with Military Honors will be in the St. Michael's Cemetery in West Point, NE. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project in care of the family.
Vicky passed away around 2am on Friday morning, July 17, 2020 at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha, NE. She had had a liver transplant the previous week, which was proceeding well. Complications unexpectedly set in that morning which she was not able to overcome.
Vicky Lynn (Disher) Craig was born June 24, 1951 in West Point, NE to Norbert and Florence (Keller) Disher. She attended Guardian Angels School and graduated from West Point Central Catholic in 1969. She went on to obtain license as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Omaha, NE. She served proudly in the active U.S. Army and Army Reserves from 1972 until 2000, having achieved the highest enlisted rank possible of Master Sergeant.
On June 23, 1980, she married Ed Craig in Platte City, KS, whom she met while they were both stationed at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Their eldest daughter Alice was born there. Vicky moved with Ed to Germany upon his transfer where their other daughter Ronnie was born. In 1994, the couple moved to West Point, NE on Ed’s retirement from the service. Vicky worked as a surgical nurse at St. Francis Memorial Hospital until she retired in 2013. She was a member of West Point Rescue for over 20 years.
Vicky loved her dogs, crocheting, and watching all baseball games but in particular “her” St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. She loved calling her daughter Ronnie and her niece Gretchen (who were Cubie fans) any time the Cardinals beat the Cubies, no matter the time or day. During baseball season, she wore her Yadier Molina shirt and Cardinals baseball cap whenever she went out. A highlight was watching the Cardinals play the Royals last year, a birthday present from her daughters. She also loved history, reading, working crossword puzzles, and decorating her home for every holiday especially Christmas and Halloween. She was the family historian and the keeper of the family recipe for homemade sauerkraut. Her most favorite activity was spending time with her daughters of whom she was rightly very proud, as well as with her niece and nephew, and their children whom she treated as her own grandchildren.

Vicky was preceded in death by her parents.
