Obituary for Les Schlecht

Les Schlecht, age 86, of West Point, NE passed away on March 29, 2020 at the Colonial Haven Nursing Home in Beemer, NE. Memorial services will be held at a later date due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Minnick Funeral Service in West Point is assisting with the arrangements.

Les was born on January 30, 1934 to Joe and Eleanore Schlecht in rural Wisner, NE. He was raised in Wisner, where he attended country school. Les married Margaret (Midge) Wortman on October 9, 1954. He then spent three years in the US Navy. Les and Midge had two children-Randy and Suzy.

When he returned from the Navy, Les worked near Blair and then farmed near Scribner before moving to West Point, NE. He worked for IBP of West Point for 40 years until retiring. After retirement he loved to garden, play cards and visit his family. He especially enjoyed his time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Les was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in West Point, NE.

Grandchildren: Jennifer Moore-Columbus, NE; Schott (Justine) Hahn-Hickman, NE; Anthony (Morgan) Schlecht and Allison (Tom) Riley of Arizona
Daughter-in-law-Cindy Schlecht of Arizona
Great-Grandchildren: Joey and Pedro Villa-Columbus, NE; and Meredith, Maggie, and Matthew Schlecht of Arizona
Sisters: Lillian (Andy) Heller of Wisner, NE and Lanise McDermott of Scribner, NE
Brother: Larry (Deanna) Schlecht of Scribner, NE
Sister-in-law-Marian Schlecht of Scribner, NE
And many nieces and nephews

Les was preceded in death by his parents, wife-Midge, son-Randy Schlecht, daughter-Suzy Hahn, and brother-Lloyd Schlecht.
