Obituary for Jean Albers

Funeral services for Jean Albers age 84 of West Point, NE will be on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church in West Point, NE with Pastor Priscilla Hukki officiating. Interment will be in the Beemer Cemetery following lunch. Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in West Point and will continue on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church.

Jean passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at her home.

Emma Jean (Ohm) Albers was born on July 9, 1935 in Omaha, NE to Harvey and Loretta (Powers) Ohm. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Yutan, NE. Jean attended school in Valley and graduated from Valley High School in 1953. She began working at the Bank of Valley and also gave dance lessons at Arthur Murray in Omaha.

On October 20, 1956, she was united in marriage to James Lee Albers at the Baptist Presbyterian Church in Valley, NE. The couple lived in Beemer, where Jean was a stay at home mom until her children were in high school. She began working as a nurse’s aide at Colonial Haven in Beemer, had served as the Activities Director at the Wisner Manor, worked at VO’s in Beemer, and at Wisner West until she retired after working there for 25 years. In 2014, the couple moved to West Point, NE.

Jean was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in West Point. She loved to garden, attending her grandchildren’s activities, and especially loved her animals, whether it was her horses when the kids were growing up or the stray dogs she rescued. No matter the occasion, Jean was always dressed accordingly.

Jean was preceded in death by her son-Tom J. (TJ) Albers, mother-Loretta Ohm shortly after Jean’s marriage, father-Harvey Ohm, step-mother-Clara Ohm, and her brother-Tom Ohm.
