Doris passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2019 at Parkview Home in Dodge.

Doris was born on March 14, 1933, on the family farm near Dodge, NE to Frank M. and Bertilla (Kluthe) Steffensmeier. She attended elementary school at Olean, NE and attended Dodge High School. Doris worked at the Dodge Café, where she met Richard Pruss while he was on leave from the service. Doris and Richard were united in marriage at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Olean on January 29, 1952. The couple began farming one mile west of Dodge. Doris raised six children while also helping with the family farm operation. It was not unusual to see her butchering chickens, mowing the yard, making sausage or helping with the livestock. Doris and Richard continued to live there until 2013, when they moved to Parkview Home in Dodge.

Doris was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and canning fruits and vegetables. Her cooking and baking were second to none and her Christmas toffee has never been duplicated; many have tried, but it just isn’t “as good as moms”. Her rhubarb pie, deep dish apple pie and banana cream pie were family favorites. She was adored by her entire family and her love for her family was immeasurable. She greeted everyone with a smile and a favorite pastime was telling KFAB jokes to her grandkids. One of the highlights of her life were the many family vacations in Minnesota. She was very happy at Parkview and made many special friends with residents and staff; she considered it her home.
