Obituary for Kurt Rathke
Funeral services for Kurt Rathke age 61 of Wisner, NE will be be held on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wisner, NE with Pastor Robert Mayes officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran-rural Beemer with a reception to follow at the Cooper Family Community Center in Pilger, NE. Visitation will be on Saturday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner and will continue on Sunday one hour prior to the service at the church..
Kurt passed away on Friday, June 7, 2019 at CHI Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, NE.
Kurt Walden Rathke was born on June 14, 1957, along with his twin brother Keith Rathke, to Walden and Luella (Siebrandt) Rathke in West Point, NE. He grew up on the family farm south of Wisner.
He was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church of rural Beemer, NE and confirmed at Zion St. John Lutheran Church of rural Wisner, NE.
Kurt graduated from Wisner-Pilger High School in 1975. He then attended Northeast Community College and graduated with a degree in Building Construction in 1977. While in the Building Construction program, he met many lifelong friends.
He made a career in residential construction, working and passing on his trade to others, for 44 years. He was currently the owner of Rathke Construction. Kurt built and remodeled many beautiful homes in Wisner and the surrounding communities.
On February 7, 1987 he was united in marriage to Jill Briardy at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wisner, NE. They were blessed with two children, Kasey and Alexis.
Kurt was a member of Zion St. John Lutheran Church of rural Wisner, NE. For nineteen years Kurt enjoyed playing softball for Wolverton Hay Co. Kurt loved spending time with his family and dogs. He enjoyed fishing, collecting antique fishing lures, family vacations in Minnesota, woodworking, and having drinks with friends. Kurt will be remembered by his loved ones for his work ethic and his comical personality.
Survivors: Wife- Jill Rathke of Wisner, NE; Son- Kasey and Danielle Rathke of Wisner, NE; Daughter- Alexis and Mychael McClure of Wisner, NE; Mother-Luella Rathke of Norfolk, NE; Brother- Keith Rathke of Wisner, NE; Dogs- Freckles, Jazz, Cookie, Birdy, Jett, and River.
Kurt was preceded in death by his father, Walden Rathke.
Memorials suggested to Wisner-Pilger Community Schools Foundation for use in the Industrial Arts program.
