Obituary for Alice Rabe
Funeral services for Alice Rabe age 90 of rural Beemer, NE will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Zion St. John Lutheran Church, rural Wisner, NE with Pastor Robert Mayes officiating. Private family interment will be in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery, rural Beemer, NE. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. The family suggests that memorials be directed to Zion-St. John Lutheran Church, rural Wisner, NE and/or St. Francis Hospice-West Point, NE. Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Alice passed away on Monday, June 3, 2019 at St. Joseph's Hillside Villa in West Point, NE.
Alice Marie Prawitz Rabe was born on June 12th, 1928, at the family farm in Pilger, Nebraska to Paul and Martha (Melcher) Prawitz. She was baptized on and confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Pilger, Nebraska. She graduated from Pilger High School and then got her first teaching job in a one room schoolhouse in Stanton County. Alice taught for five years. She made sure the school was warm by starting the stove in the morning.
On December 17, 1950, she was united in marriage to Elton Rabe at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Pilger, NE by Pastor R.L. Ritzen. After marrying they moved to the Rabe family farm south of Beemer. They had two daughters, Jeannie and Cherrie.
Alice was a member of Zion-St. John’s Lutheran Church and enjoyed Ladies Aide and served on various officer positions. She was also a member of the Cuming County Extension Club and Project Club. Alice loved playing Pitch with her close circle of dear friends. She loved gardening, canning, baking and taking care of numerous cats. Alice also submitted a recipe to the Taste of Home food magazine where her soup recipe was featured. She was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends, most especially over the Christmas holiday. She collected a large library of cookbooks.
Survivors- Jeannie and husband Harlan Horst of Altamont, MO; granddaughter-Jana and husband Clay Fielder of Kansas City, MO and children Hayden and Adelyn; grandson-Jamin and wife Cheryl Horst of Lincoln, NE and children Ayla and Eli; daughter-Cherrie and husband Allan Schuetze of Jacksonville, FL; grandson-Ryan and wife Michelle Petersen of Bennington, NE and children Gracie and Jarek; granddaughter-Heather and husband Todd Kreikemeier of West Point, NE and children Zoey and Ian. Nieces: Linda Doran and Beverly Rabe So, Nephews: Steven Hyde and Gail Rabe.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Elton, on November 12, 2013, her parents, and sister, Esther and brother in-law Everett Hyde of Black Mountain, NC, Dale, Marjorie and niece Bonnie Rabe.
