Leonard entered the U.S. Army on September 13, 1946, serving a tour of duty in Japan, before being honorably discharged on May 21, 1947. He returned to the family farm, farming with his father and brothers and later with his son.

We have fond memories of Leonard. He did always have a smile or joke. We enjoyed him at Bomgaars also. He borrowed our Alaska books when they were planning a trip there so we enjoyed talking about that also. Let your memories bring you smiles, your friends and family give you comfort and God grant you peace. We too will miss him.
