Obituary for Helen Schmitt

Mass of Christian Burial for Helen Schmitt age 94 of Norfolk, NE formerly of Wisner, NE will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wisner with Fr. Vincent Sunguti celebrating the mass. Interment will be in the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m., and will continue on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner is in charge of the arrangements.

Helen passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at St. Joseph's Rehabilitation and Care Center in Norfolk, NE.

Helen Marie (Baum) Schmitt was born on February 18, 1925 to John and Rose (Ries) Baum in Elgin, NE. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin, NE. She attended St. Boniface School and graduated from high school in 1942. Helen attended Omaha Business College and worked for Goodyear in Omaha for several years.

On June 15, 1948, she was united in marriage to Clarence A. Schmitt at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin. The couple moved to Wisner in 1959, where she was a homemaker for their three children. Helen then worked for the City of Wisner for over twenty five years.

Helen was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wisner, it’s Ladies Guild, and was the church organist for over 25 years. She was an avid bridge player and belonged to a Project Club.

Daughter-Annette and Jeff Odell of Greeley, CO and family-
Ben Cary, Nick Cary, Amanda Cary, Megan and Ryan Holdren, and Casey Odell

Sisters- Barbara Jeanne and Jerome Reicks, Sr. of Sioux City, IA
Marjorie and Jim White of Surprise, AZ

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband-Clarence on Sept. 11, 2012, and two sisters- Marian Phipps, and Bette Lou Kelly.
