Obituary for Elwood Minds

Mass of Christian Burial for Elwood Minds age 92 of Beemer, NE will be held on Friday, April 26, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wisner, NE with Fr. Vincent Sunguti celebrating the mass. Interment will be in the St. Joseph's Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m., and will continue on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner is in charge of the arrangements.

Elwood passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at the Colonial Haven Nursing Home in Beemer, NE.

Elwood Harry Minds was born on March 18, 1927 to Harry and Deloros (Rabbass) Minds south of Beemer, NE. He attended Cuming County Rural School and began farming with his father at an early age. He later farmed with his uncle Carl Vollmer prior to his marriage.

On January 7, 1950, he was united in marriage to Mollie Ann Grashorn at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wisner, NE. The couple lived on a farm northwest of Beemer.

Elwood was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, where he had served on the parish council and was an EME to the shut-ins. Elwood was a 3rd Degree member of Knights of Columbus Fr. Joseph Rose Council #7779 in Wisner and a 4th Degree member of Knights of Columbus Msgr. Joseph Boshek Assembly #596 in West Point. He served on the Beemer Township Board for 29 years and was on the school board for Cuming County Rural School Districts #7 and #21.

Brother- Everett and Dorothy Minds of Pilger, NE

Elwood was preceded in death by his parents, wife-Mollie Ann on August 6, 2016, and two sisters- Eulilah Doffin and Elaine Hansen.
