Obituary for Henry Schlickbernd

Mass of Christian Burial for Henry Schlickbernd age 92 of West Point, NE will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Beemer with Fr. Vincent Sunguti celebrating the mass. Interment will be in the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Beemer and will continue on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at church. Minnick Funeral Home in West Point is assisting with the arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation in Henry’s name.

Henry passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at the Colonial Haven Nursing Home in Beemer, NE.

Henry William Schlickbernd, Jr. was born on May 17, 1926 on the family farm near West Point, NE to Henry, Sr. and Katharine (Dinslage) Schlickbernd. He attended Cuming County Rural School District #6 and at age 16 stayed home and helped his father farm. He later served in the United States Army during World War II.

On September 12, 1950, he was united in marriage to Imogene Elizabeth Pieper at Sacred Heart Catholic Church-Olean, rural Dodge, NE. Henry continued farming with his father until purchasing a farm south of Scribner. They farmed that farm for 6 years and returned to farm near Beemer from 1961 to 1984. In 1984, Henry retired from farming and they moved into West Point, NE. Henry went to the farm almost every day after retiring. He has been a resident of Colonial Courts and Colonial Haven Nursing Home in Beemer for the last five years.

Henry was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a former member of V.F.W. Post #4912 of West Point. Henry and Imogene enjoyed dancing, taking the family on vacation to visit relatives, and playing cards.
