Mass of Christian Burial for Evelyn Coufal age 87 of Howells, NE will be on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Nepomucene Catholic Church -n Howells, NE with Fr. Stanley Schmit as celebrant. Interment-will be in St. John's Nepomucene Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 3:00 p.m. and a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m., and will continue on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service all at the church. The family suggests that memorials may be considered for the Howells Community Fund and or Howells Community Catholic Schools in Evelyn's name. Minnick Funeral Chapel in Dodge is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Evelyn passed away on Friday, March 22, 2019 at CHI-Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, NE.

Evelyn Antonia (Kander) Coufal was born on April 28, 1931 near Clarkson, NE to Elmer and Antonia (Bohaboj) Kander. She grew up in the Clarkson area and graduated from Clarkson High School in 1949.

On June 15, 1949, she was united in marriage to Richard Coufal at St. John’s Nepomucene Catholic Church in Howells, NE. The couple farmed northwest of Howells, where Evelyn was an active farm wife, and in 1984 moved onto a feedlot north of Howells. In 1992, they moved to Columbus, where Evelyn worked at K-Mart and HyVee before returning to Howells in 1998.

Evelyn was a member of St. John’s Nepomucene Catholic Church, and Christian Mothers. She loved to sew, which was evident by the numerous quilts and tie blankets she made for her family. Evelyn enjoyed playing cards and assembling puzzles. Also very dear in her heart was her little dog Amber. Her family was her pride and joy, whether it was the tradition of Sunday Dinner after church or attending her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s activities.
