Obituary for Betty Cech

Funeral Mass for Betty J. Cech, age 83 of Howells, will be held on Monday, March 11, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter and Paul’s Catholic in Howells. Visitation will be held at the church on Sunday, March 10th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. and will continue on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Minnick Funeral Chapel in Dodge is handling the arrangements for the family. Betty died Thursday, March 7, 2019 at the Parkview Home in Dodge surrounded by her family.
Betty was born on November 24, 1935, in Snyder, NE, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Hunke) Niewohner. She attended St. Leo’s Catholic school and graduated from Snyder High School in 1953. Betty and Theofil J Cech were married on April 12, 1955 in a double wedding ceremony with her sister Mary Ann (Daniel) Kluthe. TC passed away on November 14, 1997.
Betty was a member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Howells. She was a member of Christian Mothers for more than fifty-five years. Betty was an EMHC for many years also.
She enjoyed music, dancing, playing cards, reading and bingo. She mostly enjoyed her family. Betty took great joy in supporting her children and grandchildren in the many sporting events they participated in. She also took great pride in all their accomplishments throughout their lives.
Betty was a bookkeeper for C.B.K. for many years. She worked in the Physical Therapy department at Alegant Hospital in Schuyler. The Howells Retirement Center was also a place of employment for many years. Betty enjoyed being the Activities Director at the Dodge Nursing Home for a few years also.
Betty is survived by four sons and one daughter. Rick (Diane); Randy (Marge); Russ (Janet); and Roger (Lori) Cech all of the Howells area. Renee (Pat) Sand of Alta, Iowa; 17 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren; five sisters, Rose Marie McNamara of Beemer, Rita (Vern) Ortmeier of Waterloo, NE, Jan (Lorin) Batenhorst of Wisner, NE, Mary Ann Kluthe and Marcie (Mel) Ortmeier all of Dodge, NE; and three brothers, Daniel (Jeanette) Niewohner of Scribner, NE, Virgil (Karen) Niewohner of Dodge, NE, and Bernard (Betty Kay) Niewohner of West Point, NE. Brother-in-laws, Dean Korte of Wilber, NE, Leroy (Carol) Cech of Burnsville, MN, Tom (Grace) Cech of Fort Collins, CO, and sister-in-law, Judy (Gene) Steiner of Lincoln, NE.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers – Joe, Leo and Irwin Niewohner; in-laws – Daniel Kluthe, Jim McNamara, Willard and Marge Cech, Jerry Cech, Margie Niewohner, and Darlene Korte.
At their mother’s request, the family suggests memorials to the Howells Community Catholic School.
