Tribute to Aunt Evelyn
I admired Aunt Evelyn for her quiet faith, her sense of humor, devotion to family, her humility, generosity, honesty and the kindness and support she provided me over many years. Although I have lived in California for years, I have been blessed to be able to return to Nebraska to visit on a regular basis. I looked forward to my annual visits with Aunt Evelyn and Uncle Francis Fritz. Their obvious devotion, care and love for one another was a source of great pride and inspiration for me. They opened their home to me during my stay, making sure I had everything I needed. Their warm hospitality and conversation made me feel welcome and comfortable. I have fond memories and will miss those times. As her health continued to fail over the past few years life became more difficult, but her spirit and faith never wavered. She seemed to be confident of what lay ahead. An excerpt from poem by David Haskins seems appropriate.
You can shed tears that she is gone
Or you can smile because she lived
You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all that she left
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live for yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday
You can remember her and only that she is gone
Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on,
How lucky I was, How blessed Ive been, you were more than my Aunt, You were also my friend. I will very much miss my Aunt Evelyn
