Mass of Christian Burial for Harold A. Schlickbernd age 92 of Beemer, NE will be held on Monday, October 1, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Beemer, NE with Fr. Vincent Sunguti as celebrant. Interment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a public Wake Service at 7:00 p.m., and will continue on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Minnick Funeral Home in West Point is handling the arrangements for the family. The family suggest that memorials be directed to Beemer Fire and Rescue or the American Veterans Park in West Point, NE.

Harold passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at the Colonial Haven Nursing Home in Beemer, NE.

Harold Anthony Schlickbernd was born on August 2, 1926 to William Anthony and Aloysia Stephania (Vandenberg) Schlickbernd, Sr. He attended Cuming Co. Rural School and graduated from Guardian Angels High School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from February of 1945 to November of 1946 during World War II. After being honorably discharged he returned to Beemer and began farming.

In 1949, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Moore at St. John’s Nepomucene Catholic Church in Howells, NE. In 1959, Harold began serving as a rural mail carrier until 1992, when he retired.

On February 17, 1990, he married Norma (Shadbolt) Mevert at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Beemer, NE

Harold was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, where he sang in the choir, he was a 3rd Degree member of Knights of Columbus Council #2272, member of Beemer American Legion Post #159 and West Point V.F.W. Post #4902, was a life member of the DAV (Disabled American Veterans), was a former member of the Rural Route Carriers Association, and had formerly served on the school board at West Point Central Catholic High School.

Harold enjoyed gardening, tending to his marigolds, hunting, fishing, and calling Bingo at the Cuming Co. Fair.
