Obituary for Beverly Volkert

Funeral services for Beverly Volkert, age 88 of Sutherland, NE will be held on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion-St. John Lutheran Church, rural Wisner, NE with Pastor Robert Mayes officiating. Interment will be in the Cushing Cemetery at Cushing, IA at 2:30 p.m. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner and will continue on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. The family suggests memorials be directed to Missionary, Jana Inglehart in the Dominican Republic; or to the Student Scholarship Fund for Our Redeemer Lutheran School of North Platte, Nebraska.
Mrs. Volkert passed away on Friday, September 7, 2018 at the Sutherland Care Center in Sutherland, NE.
Beverly Jean (Scott) Volkert was born on May 4, 1930 in Sioux City, IA to J. Orien and Ardess Edna (Aronson) Scott. She grew up in Sioux City, IA and graduated from Central High School in 1948.
On September 1, 1950, she was united in marriage to Allen Volkert at the Christian and Missionary Alliance in Sioux City, IA. The couple lived in Cushing, IA. In 1959 they moved to Odebolt, IA, where they raised their children. Beverly was the church secretary at Trinity Lutheran Church. Later she worked as a Printer's Finisher at the Odebolt Chronicle for 17 years.
In 1989, Beverly moved to West Point, NE and worked as a janitor at West Point High School. After her retirement in 1995 she moved to Wisner, NE. In 2014 she moved to the Sutherland Care Center in Sutherland, NE where she could be closer to her family.
Beverly loved her family and friends and was always on hand when they needed her help. Beverly was a member of Zion-St. John Lutheran Church, rural Wisner where she spent many hours volunteering. She belonged to the LWML, the church choir, and the quilting group. Beverly made banners for the church, and she also spent hours volunteering at the Zion St. John Lutheran School. She enjoyed working puzzles and playing games of all kinds.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two children in infancy-Timothy Scott Volkert and Marguerite Ann Volkert, four brothers, four sisters, and their spouses.
