Gerald passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at the Wisner Care Center.

Gerald August Doescher was born on August 9, 1932 to August and Rosa (Mahnke) Doescher in Beemer, NE. Gerald attended Beemer Elementary and graduated from Beemer High School in 1950. After graduation, he worked with his father grinding and shelling corn. He was drafted in to the Army on February 12, 1953 and was stationed in Arleona, France while in the service and was discharged in January of 1955.
Gerald came home on leave in July of 1953 and married Norma Nitzsche on August 1, 1953.
Gerald had a truck line and hauled hogs to the west coast for Tom Thompson for 15 years, then ran a sawmill and pallet business until 2009.
Gerald loved taking his family camping every summer to Duboise, WY to go rock hunting in the river, and Gerald made jewelry out of the rocks they found.
Gerald was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Beemer and Beemer American Legion Post #159.
Grandpa was one of the most loving, hardworking, and respectful persons possible. You knew always to behave under his watch because if you didn't he would let you know. He taught us manners that we will carry with us for the rest of our lives in a way only pa could. He was a very gracious and thankful man. Even up to his last days when we would take him home from the care center he would always thank us and tell us he loved us. He appreciated the small things in life. Never wanted anything big and fancy, just to be close to family and spend good quality time together. Whether it be riding in the truck, playing skipbo or old maid, watching westerns a thousand times over, cleaning up the shop, or just sitting outside watching the birds. He was always there in good company. In his life time he made many and touched so many more lives. We are all grateful he fought so hard to stay so long with us but his fight is over and we will forever cherish the time we were lucky enough to have with him. There's not a day that will go by he won't be missed and loved, until we meet again.
