Obituary for Alverna "Chrissy" Harstick

Alverna "Chrissy"  Harstick
Mass of Christian Burial for Alverna "Chrissy" Harstick age 92 of West Point, NE will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church-St. Charles, rural West Point, NE with Fr. Steve Emanuel as celebrant. Interment will be in the St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the Nielsen Community Center. Visitation will be on Wednesday from noon to 7:00 p.m., with the family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Minnick Funeral Home in West Point and will continue on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at church. There will be a public Vigil Service on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in West Point, NE. The family suggests that memorials be directed to St. Anthony's Cemetery Fund or St. Anthony's Repair Fund.
Chrissy passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at the Colonial Haven Nursing Home in Beemer, NE.
Alverna “Chrissy” (Christensen) Harstick was born on September 3, 1925 on a farm east of Pender, NE to Paul and Hilda (Sievers) Christensen. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. She attended a one room country school, District #37, and in 1943 graduated from Pender High School. Chrissy then attended Samuel School of Cosmetology in Sioux City, IA. She was employed at Pat’s Beauty Shop and Margie Andersen Beauty Salon in West Point, NE.
On July 22, 1947 at St. Anthony’s Parish near West Point, NE, Alverna and Leonard Harstick were united in marriage by Rev. Virgil Walkowiak They raised their three children-Shirley, Nancy, and Glenn on the Harstick family homestead, where they farmed and raised livestock side by side.
After Leonard’s passing in 1983, she moved into West Point and began her career as a CNA at the West Point Living Center; retiring after 22 years at the age of 80.
Chrissy lived in her home till the age of 90 and then made the move to Colonial Haven Nursing Home in Beemer, NE.
She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and Christian Mothers. She enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, and reading, but especially spending time with her family.

Survivors include-
Daughter-Nancy and Gerald Rief of West Point and their family-Jason (Anjanette) Rief and children-Amanda, Brittney, Courtney, Dylan (Marie), Evan, and twins-Morgan& Madison; Tonya Rief; Kami (Kevin) Baumert and children-McKena & Macabe; Meghan (Bill) Doiel and children-Brantson, Kenzie, Cainen, Quinton & Marissa; Jerame Rief; Jaren (Amy) Rief and daughter-Paislee

Son-Glenn and Mary Harstick of West Point, NE and their family-Angi (Paul) Ernesti and sons-Jarod, Tate, Caden & Noah; Amy (Nick) Troyer and children-Ashton, Connor & Alexis; Anna (Casey) Koch and children-Brennan & Everly; John (Jennifer) Harstick and children-Taylor, Hannah, Emily, Chelsey, Allison, Ethan & Clayton

Son-in-law- Steve Svoboda of Ft. Calhoun, NE and family-Kristen (Roger) Alley and son-Stetson; Nathan Svoboda and son-Hunter Knowles
6 Great Great Grandchildren-Trae, Adalynn, Maliyah, Sophia, Myles, and Savannah.

Several nieces and nephews also survive her.

Chrissy was preceded in death by her parents, husband-Leonard Harstick, daughter-Shirley Svoboda, great grandson-Cody Troyer, sister-Rose Ann Christensen, brothers-John Paul in infancy, Don and George Christensen, brothers-in-law-Leo Harstick and William Hoffman, and sisters-in-law-Matilda Harstick and Phyliss Christensen.
