Obituary for William R. "Bill" Janecek

William R. "Bill"  Janecek
Memorial services for William R. "Bill" Janecek age 87 of Dodge, NE will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the New Zion Presbyterian Church-Clarkson, NE with Military Honors by Dodge American Legion Post #122. Interment will be in the Bohemian National Cemetery in Clarkson, NE at a later date. Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Chapel in Dodge, NE and will continue on Saturday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
Bill passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at the Parkview Home in Dodge, NE.
William R. “Bill” Janecek was born on October 16, 1930 at rural Dodge, NE to Frank and Julia (Vlach) Janecek. He graduated from Dodge High School in 1948 and served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953.
On October 28, 1954, he was united in marriage to Lorraine Lauda at New Zion Presbyterian Church in Clarkson, NE. Bill worked as a clerk in the U.S. Post Office in Dodge and as a Rural Mail Carrier for 40 years. He also worked as a sales clerk and auctioneer for Wisnieski Auction Service from 1958 to 2011. Bill raised Greyhounds for 35 years, was a Greyhound Meet Racing Announcer for 55 years, retiring in 2013. He also created The National Greyhound Auction in 1978, holding auctions in May and October of every year.
Bill was a member of New Zion Presbyterian Church in Clarkson, where he served as Elder and Trustee, was a member of 40 et 8, serving as Chief Correspondent, Dodge American Legion Post #122, serving as Adjutant and Service Officer, and had served as Vice Commander, District #7 American Legion. He was a member of the National Greyhound Association in Abilene, KS, where he had served as a board member and was president for 12 years. He was inducted into the National Greyhound Association Hall of Fame in 2006 and received their Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014.
Bill was very active in the community of Dodge, where he coached youth baseball and basketball, was a Boy Scout Leader, was a member of the Dodge School Board for 12 years and served as President for 4 years, served as President of the Chamber of Commerce for two separate terms, served on the Dodge Village Board for 8 years and was the Mayor for 8 years, served on the Dodge Industrial Development, was chairman for the Dodge Centennial in 1986 and was on the steering committee for the Dodge 125 Celebration in 2011. Bill was on the board for the Bohemian National Cemetery, near Dodge and had served on the St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point Board for 8 years. He also was the announcer for football and baseball games in Dodge for many years and served as a Master of Ceremonies for many functions for 50 years.

Jonathan and Joseph
Son-Lee and wife Cynthia Janecek of Omaha, NE and children-
Zachary, Benjamin and Hannah
Daughter-Julie and husband Douglas Nodgaard of Omaha, NE and sons-
Alec, Kyle and wife Kelsey Nodgaard and great grandson-Lincoln

Bill was preceded in death by his parents.
