Services for Lester “Les” Wiegert age 93 of Beemer, NE will be on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in West Point, NE. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with the family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Minnick Funeral Home in West Point. Private interment will be in the Beemer Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be directed to the John A. Stahl Library in West Point, NE or the Beemer Volunteer Fire Department.

Les passed away on Monday, December 4, 2017 at the Wisner Care Center.

Lester Rudolph Wiegert was born September 13, 1924 to Rudolph and Lida (Purrington) Wiegert on the family farm, near Beemer, NE. Les graduated from Beemer High School in 1941. On September 13, 1947, he married Gertrude Batenhorst in Cody, WY.

Les and Gert had four children, Robert, Tracy, Mary Jean and Patrick.

Les and Gert lived on the family farm north of Beemer until 1995, when they moved into Beemer, NE.

Les was involved in farming all of his life. In addition to farming, he was a rural mail carrier for the Beemer, Bancroft and West Point areas. He enjoyed gardening, reading, playing cards and cooking. Many of his family and friends knew him for his ice cream and fudge.

He is survived by sons, Robert (Sharon) of LaVista, NE, Tracy (Denise) of Duncan, NE, Pat (Deb) of Beemer, NE, son-in-law, Bruce Underwood of Bellingham, WA. Les is also survived by grandchildren, Chris (Mel) Wiegert, Cami (Mike) Platek, Joel (Judy) Wiegert, Aaron (Amanda) Wiegert, Matt Wiegert, Tristan Wiegert, and ten great grandchildren also survive him.

Les was preceded in death by his parents, wife- Gert in 2015, daughter- Mary Jean in 2013, and two sisters- Irma Wiegert and Eunice Winchell.
