Services for Thais "Tess" Frieling age 93 of Pender, NE formerly of Wisner, NE will be on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner, NE. Interment will take place prior to the service at the Wisner Cemetery.

Thais passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Legacy Gardens Rehabilitation and Care Center in Pender, NE.

Thais Elaine Frieling was born on June 5, 1924 at Wisner, NE to Ellis and Florence (Faubel) Stewart. She attended Cuming Co. Rural School District #43 and graduated from Wisner High School. Thais went to work in Omaha, NE.

Thais married Arvid “Gunner” Guthrie and the couple lived in Omaha, NE before moving to Pratt, KS, where they owned and operated a motel. They later moved to Smith Center, KS and owned and operated the motel, they also were hotel inspectors for Best Western. Gunner passed away on July 19, 1986. After selling the motel, she later worked at the Style Shop in Smith Center, KS.

She later married Elmer Frieling, the couple loved to travel and dance. Elmer passed away on January 16, 2009. Thais moved to Pender in 2010.

Thais was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Smith Center, KS, and a Red Hat Society group. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends. She was known for making delicious desserts. Thais was named as the Valentine Queen, when she resided at Prairie Breeze Retirement Community in Pender. Her pride and joy was her poodle “Jacque”, whom she treated as a child.

Chad and Laurie Stewart of Ocala, FL, Garland and Patti Stewart of Fremont, NE, Vicky and Gene Case of Pender, Janelle and Danny Simonsen of Pender, LeEllen and Dave Frank of Blue Springs, MO, Collins and Renee Albers of Grand Island, NE, Jane and Keith Thomsen of Pender, NE, Jay and Shirley Luedtke of Omaha, NE, and Craig and Robin Luedtke of Council Bluffs, IA.

Thais was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brothers- Eldon and Glen Stewart, sisters-Janice Albers and Joan Luedtke, and a nephew-Todd Albers.
