Viola Wagner was born on March 15, 1924 at Beemer, NE to August and Anna (Stark) Liibbe. In 1929, after her mother’s death, August and his four children moved to West Point and lived with Anna’s sisters, Caroline and Louise Stark. They served as foster mothers to the four children. Viola attended St. Paul Lutheran School and graduated from West Point High School in 1941.

Viola worked as a bookkeeper at Hill Hatchery, Ed Bauman Department Store, West Point Lumberyard and the True Value Store when it was added to the lumberyard. She was the head buyer at True Value and retired in 1986.

On January 12, 1951, she was united in marriage to Ed “Cagle” Wagner in Fremont, NE.

Viola was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir for many years, and served as the receiving Treasurer and on church council. She had served as president of the West Point Women’s Bowling Association, and served on the School Board of West Point Public Schools. She was president of the West Point Board of Education during the construction of West Point Jr.-Sr. High School.
