Memorial services for Janice M. Johnson age 89 of Wisner will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Christ in Wisner, NE. Interment will be in the Wisner Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner and will continue on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
Janice passed away on Friday, April 7, 2017 at the Norfolk Veterans Home.
Janice Margaret (Lindell) Johnson was born December 31, 1927, “five minutes before midnight”, in West Point, NE to Harry and Anna (Paasch) Lindell. She graduated from West Point High School in 1945. After high school she worked at Bernard’s Sundries in West Point, where she met her future husband “Rollie”, and then worked at the ASCS Office in West Point.
On December 26, 1952, she was united in marriage to Roland William Johnson in LuVerne, MN. They lived in West Point for a short time, while her dad built their home in Wisner. Four children were born to this union, Rob, John, Deb, and Sandie. Janice was a stay at home mom, while she raised her family and did in home babysitting. She answered the Wisner Fire Phone for over 30 years. From 1980-1992, she was the head cook at the Wisner-Pilger High School.
Janice and Rollie enjoyed camping and attending their children’s and grandchildren’s activities. Janice loved baking and decorating cakes and cookies for her grandchildren, and also loved quilting at United Methodist Church of Christ. She made multiple quilts for her children.
Survivors include: son Rob and Kathy (Heller) Johnson of Beemer and family Melissa and Chris Blum of Norfolk and children Elijah, Kadence and Jocelyn and Derek Johnson of Wisner; son John and Beth (Nielsen) Johnson of Lincoln and family Emily Johnson of Omaha and Evan Johnson of Lincoln; daughter Deb and Kurt Doescher of Beemer and family Margo Doescher of Beemer and children Amirah and Ameer and Sierra Doescher, who shared Grandma’s birthday, of Beemer and son Jayden; daughter Sandie Acker of Omaha and son Dustin Acker of Wisner. Janice is also survived by sister-in-law Marilyn Lindell of West Point, brother-in-law Gerald and Lois Johnson of Wisner, sisters-in-law Jean Oakes of Valley, Helen Brown of Clairmont, CA, and Marge and Merlin Klintworth of Elkhorn.
Janice is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Roland Johnson, her parents Harry and Anna Lindell, sister Elaine and Jim Vuille, brother Charles Lindell, parents-in-law John and Agnes Johnson, and brothers-in-law Ernie Oakes and Floyd Brown, Jr.
