Roland W. "Rollie"  Johnson
Memorial services for Roland W. Johnson age 89 of Norfolk, NE formerly of Wisner, NE will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Norfolk Veterans Home Chapel. Private interment will be in the Wisner Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Janice will not be present at visitation, at the Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner. The family suggests the memorials be directed to the family for future designation in Rollie’s name to various Wisner Charities.

Rollie passed away on Monday, February 13, 2017 at the Norfolk Veterans Home.

Roland William Johnson was born on November 6, 1927 in Wisner, NE to John Stark and Madeline Agnes (Shirreffs) Johnson. He graduated from Wisner High School in 1945. Rollie enlisted in the U.S. Navy on November 3, 1945 and served as a boiler tender on the U.S.S. Ajax during World War II. He was honorably discharged on October 29, 1948. He returned to Wisner and began his career with the City of Wisner.

On December 26, 1952, he was united in marriage to Janice M. Lindell in Luverne, MN. They lived in West Point for a short time, while Janice’s father built their home in Wisner. Rollie worked for the City of Wisner for 52 years, retiring in 2000. He was a very dedicated and hardworking City Engineer, he took pride in making sure the parks, cemetery, and streets looked beautiful and that the utilities were running smoothly. Rollie received numerous awards for his efforts while employed by the City of Wisner.

Rollie was a member of the United Methodist Church of Christ in Wisner. He enjoyed camping with family which included Alaska trips in Sandie’s Mini Home. He cherished helping out on Rob’s family farm. Rollie loved watching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in their different sporting events and 4-H activities. He enjoyed sharing his talent in scrapbooking with his kids, grandkids, and the Wisner Heritage Museum, with the 30 scrapbooks on Wisner’s history. Rollie also loved watching Husker Football.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years Janice, son-Rob and Kathy (Heller) Johnson of Beemer and family, Melissa and Chris Blum of Norfolk and children-Elijah, Kadence, and Jocelyn, and Derek Johnson of Wisner; son-John and Beth (Nielsen) Johnson of Lincoln, NE and children, Emily Johnson of Omaha, and Evan Johnson of Lincoln; daughter-Deb and Kurt Doescher of Beemer and family, Margo Doescher of Beemer and children-Amirah and Ameer, Sierra Doescher of Beemer and son Jayden; and daughter-Sandie Acker of Omaha, NE and son Dustin Acker of Wisner. Rollie is also survived by his brother-Gerald and Lois Johnson of Wisner, sisters- Jean Oakes of Valley, NE, Helen Brown of Clairmont, CA, and Marge and Merle Klintworth of Elkhorn, NE, and a sister-in-law-Marilyn Lindell of West Point.

Rollie was proceded in death by his parents- John and Agnes Johnson, brothers-in-law-Ernie Oakes and Floyd Brown, Jr., parents-in-law- Harry and Anna Lindell, sister-in-law-Elaine and Jim Vuille, and a brother-in-law-Charles Lindell.
