Funeral services for Alvin "Al" Thies age 88 of Stanton, formerly of Pilger, NE will be held on Friday, October 23, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wisner, NE with Pastor Terry Makelin of St. John's Lutheran Church-Pilger and Rev. Warren Ueckert (son-in-law) officiating. Interment with Military Honors will be in the Pilger Cemetery following the lunch. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner and will continue on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Al passed away on Monday, October 19, 2015 at Stanton Skilled Nursing in Stanton, NE after a long bout with cancer.

Alvin Herman Thies was born July 10, 1927, on the family farm near Pilger to Henry and Ida (Becker) Thies. He attended county school (District #40) through the eighth grade. He worked a variety of jobs and joined the United States Army in 1946. He married Myra “Mike” Eggers on May 7, 1947, in Marysville, KS. After their marriage, they worked for Leonard Horst of rural Wisner and later moved to Lemmon, SD, where he worked as a mechanic. They returned to the Wisner area and were employed by Warren Borgelt. They farmed north of Beemer for 20 years before moving to a farm near Pilger in 1973. The couple moved into Pilger in 1995. Al lived there until the June 16, 2014 tornado destroyed his home. He moved to Assisted Living in Stanton. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pilger, NE.

Survivors include: two sons, Gary (and wife, Rhonda) Thies of Lincoln and family, Tyler (and wife, Jessica) Thies and children-Dawson, Maddux, and Grace, Tatum (and husband, Tom) Casart and children- twins-Kate and Rex, Bo, and Klara, and Dean (and wife, Kim) Thies of Pilger and family, Kristopher (and wife, Tara) Thies and children-Kaylin, Kason, and Kynlee, Travis (and wife, Sarah) Thies and children-Gavin, Tycin, and twins Knoxyn and Charlee, Taylor (and husband, Ben) Buderus; two daughters, Catherine (and husband, Warren) Ueckert of Flagstaff, AZ and family, Blaine (and wife, Penny) Wilcoxson and children Barrett, and Helena, Erik (and wife, Angie) Wilcoxson and children-Tyler, twins-Alex and Audrey, and Thomas, and Sue (and husband, Dan) Steinbach of Lincoln, NE and family, Jesse (and wife, Karen) Steinbach and children-Trenton, and Bryce; two brothers, Eldon Thies and Gilbert Thies of Winside; one sister, Armeda Wascher of Omaha.

He was preceded in death by his wife (Mike Eggers), parents, a sister (Ellen Renner) and two brothers (Virgil and Arland).
