Funeral services for Elda Jahnke age 94 of West Point, NE will be on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in West Point, NE with interment in the Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Minnick Funeral Home in West Point and will continue on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. till the time of the service at the church.

Elda passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at the Colonial Haven Nursing Home in Beemer, NE.

Elda Friedericke May Jahnke was born on May 8, 1919 in rural Cuming Co. near Pender, NE to John and Bertha (Reich) Lutjen. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Pender, NE. Elda attended rural school through the 8th grade. On May 25, 1941, she was united in marriage to Arnold Jahnke at St. John’s Lutheran Church. The couple moved to West Point and Elda worked for Omaha Cold Storage and the City of West Point. Elda later worked as the bookkeeper for Arnold Jahnke Electric, raised and sold African violets from home, and also had worked at West Point Public Schools as a cook for several years before retiring.

Elda enjoyed baking, flower and vegetable gardening, talking politics, and liked to travel. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, a charter member of its LWML, and a member of the Cuming Co. Historical Society. For years she was the Superintendant for the floral entries at the Cuming County Fair.

Survivors include-
Daughter-Jane and husband Courtney Johnson of Omaha, NE
Grandson-Travis Johnson of Omaha, NE
Several nieces and nephews also survive her.

Elda was preceded in death by her parents, husband-Arnold, and sisters- Elsie Engelhart and Vera Jahnke.
