Obituary for Delilah Abendroth

Funeral services for Delilah Abendroth age 104 of West Point, NE will be on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in West Point, NE. Interment will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from noon to 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Minnick Funeral Home in West Point and will continue on Wednesday from one hour prior to the service at the church.

Delilah passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2013 at the West Point Living Center.

Delilah Elvira Abendroth was born April 1, 1909 to Henry and Matie (Prawitz) Stoltzman on the family homestead Northeast of West Point, NE. She was baptized May 20, 1909 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stanton, NE. On March 25, 1923 she was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Beemer, NE. She lived her young life in West Point and Beemer. She graduated from West Point High School in 1928, attended Wayne State Teachers College and taught schools in Cuming County until she married Fred Abendroth on October 20, 1931 at Grace Lutheran Parsonage in West Point, NE. They lived and operated a bakery in Stanton and Pilger and then began farming in the West Point area in 1938. They retired in 1969 and moved to West Point where she resided until her death on September 1, 2013.

Delilah was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in West Point, NE and was a member of the LWML, Ladies Aid and taught Sunday school there for several years. She transcribed Sunday School Lessons for the Lutheran Braille Writers for many years. She first did this by hand and later used a Braille Typewriter. Delilah was member of the Sunshine Club and Sunshine Band, American Red Cross Volunteers, The Cuming County Historical Society, Daughter's of the Union Veterans and a 4-H leader. In November of 2009, after her 100th birthday, she moved to St. Joseph’s Retirement Community and in May of 2013 she entered the West Point Living Center.

Delilah is survived by daughter, JoAnn Fullner and husband Artwin of Wisner their children, Marlin, Marlene (Gerald Ruskamp), Russell (Theresa), and Rodney (Darla), daughter, Caroline Zuhlke of Bancroft and her children Lenn and Thresa (Jeff Carle). Great Grandchildren are Carl and Nathan Ruskamp, Latham, Elliott and Jordan Fullner, Brennan Fullner, Xyander, Philip, Lauren and Jacob Zuhlke.

Preceding her in death are her parents, husband in 1988, sister, Dorothea Peterson and husband Bert, Son-in-law, Willis Zuhlke, Grandson, Curt Zuhlke, and Great Grandson, Aaron Ruskamp.
