Obituary for Cara Alfson

Cara Alfson, 63, of Omaha passed away at Nye Legacy Rehab Center, Fremont on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 with her sister, Jane, and friend Stephanie Fryers at her side. Cara peacefully ended the battle she had waged with cancer for six years with courage, strength, and dignity.

Born in Norfolk to Warren and Marjorie (Horst) Alfson, Cara was a 1967 graduate of Wisner High School and received a Bachelor of Science in home economics from the University of Nebraska in 1971. She was a sales representative for Boye Needle, Marcel Shurmann cards, and other gift items for many years.

Cara was an avid fan of NU football and enjoyed periodic trips to Newport, California with friends and annual visits to Jackson Hole, Wyoming with her family. She was a member of Countryside Community Church of Omaha and Chapter GE of PEO. She was a fun-loving, people person and her friends were drawn to her love of life and her sense of humor.

She is survived by sister, Jane and Keith Westerhold of Westfield, NJ and niece, Alison Westerhold of Chatham, NJ. She was preceded in death by her parents and her grandparents, Hans and Myrtle (Stubbs) Horst and Alfred and Louise (Schach) Alfson.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, August 17th at 2:00 p.m. at Countryside Community Church, 8787 Pacific St., Omaha. A reception at the church will follow the service. Interment will be Monday, August 19, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wisner Cemetery, Wisner where a graveside memorial will be observed, with a reception following at the Wisner United Methodist Church of Christ. Minnick Funeral Home of Wisner is in charge of arrangemennts.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to: Wisner Library of Wisner, the Nebraska Humane Society in Omaha, or the American Cancer Society.
