Doris  Broekemeier
Funeral services for Doris Broekemeier age 86 of Norfolk, NE formerly of Pilger, NE will be held on Monday, September 24, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Pilger, NE with Pastor Timothy Booth officiating. Interment will be in the Pilger Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and will continue on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service, both at the church. Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner is assisting the family with the arrangments.

Doris passed away on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk, NE.

Doris Rose (Krueger) Broekemeier was born February 21, 1932 in Cuming Co., NE to Hugo and Leona (Kind) Krueger. She was baptized and confirmed on February 27, 1948 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wisner, NE by Rev. Schlecht. Doris attended Cuming Co. Rural School District #34, Wisner High School, Norfolk Jr. College and Wayne State College.

On April 8, 1960, she was united in marriage to Herbert Broekemeier at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont, NE by Pastor Schroeder. After marriage, they lived in Pilger until 1970, when they moved to a farm west of Pilger. In September of 2013 the couple moved to Norfolk, NE.

Doris taught school in Cuming and Stanton Counties for 37 years, retiring in 1988. She was a member of the Stanton County Teachers Association and served as treasurer and vice-president. She later worked at Wisner Wiping Cloth for 5 years.

Doris was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pilger, its LWML, where she had served as President, Secretary and Treasurer, she also sang in the choir. She served as a substitute in the school lunch program at Wisner-Pilger School. She was on the Pilger Library Board for 8 years, serving as President and Secretary, and was a sub at the library for many years. She received a “Pat on the Back Award” from the Northeast Library Commission in May of 2012. She was a member of the Pilger Senior Citizens Center, and served as President, Secretary and Treasurer. She also helped decorate the Senior Center each month for many years. Doris was chosen as “Pilger’s Outstanding Citizen” in 1997.

She and Herb belonged to Dudes and Dolls Square Dance Club at Wisner and Leather and Lace Square Dance Club at Wayne. She enjoyed Square Dancing, Ballroom Dancing, and playing cards. She belonged to several bridge clubs, Jolly Jokers Pitch Club and a Sheephead Club.

Survivors include her nieces and nephews and their families-

Marge and Bill Reikofski of Norfolk, NE and daughters- Theresa and Tammy
Mardelle and Jerry Ludwig of Omaha, NE and children-Eric and Jill
Merlin (Butch) Krueger of Norfolk, NE
Marie Kasal of Omaha, NE and children-Shawn and Lisa
Monica and Russ Heller of David City, NE and children-Katie, Matt and Will

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband-Herb on June 21, 2014, and three brothers-Merlin, Darold, and Vernon Krueger.
