Memorial services for Bernita (Houfek-Cruse) Meyer age 84 of Wisner, NE will be held on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of Christ in Wisner, NE with Pastor Coral Parmenter officiating. Interment will be in the Wisner Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner and will continue on Tuesday from noon until the time of the service at the church.

Bernita passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at the Wisner Care Center.

Bernita Bess Meyer was born on January 26, 1934 in Wayne Co., NE to Walter and Ruth (Andersen) Hansen. Bernita attended rural school and Martinsburg High School. She married Richard Houfek in 1950 and seven children were born to this marriage.

Bernita later married Harlie Cruse in 1972 and a son was born to this marriage. Bernita over the years had worked as a cook, waitress, medication aide and certified nurse’s aide before retiring.

She was a former member of the Battle Creek Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and was currently a member of the United Methodist Church of Christ in Wisner. She also had been a 4-H leader. Bernita enjoyed sewing, where she made several outfits for her children, crocheting, knitting and embroidery. She loved playing Bingo and Pitch.

Bernita was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, daughter-Rosemary Kay Houfek, son-Duane Cruse, granddaughter-Rose Mary Schmidt, great grandson-Keaton Jenkins, sons-in-law-Loren Moody & Roy Schmidt, siblings- Rodney Hansen, Maynard Hansen, Vivian and Leleand Lemke, and Kenneth and Mary Hansen, and a brother-in-law-Milo Patefield.
