Obituary for Vivene Keller

Vivene “Vi” Geraldine Siemers Keller died peacefully at Tabitha in Lincoln, Nebraska on February 14, 2018. Funeral services will be held at Minnick’s Funeral Home in Wisner, NE on
Thursday, February 22 at 10:30 AM. The family will be hosting visitations at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 21 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm and Thursday, February 22 from 9:00 to 10:30 am.

Vi, the daughter of the late Mae and Edmund Wegner, was born on January 16, 1922 in Wisner, NE. She graduated from Wisner High School in 1938 and attended Wayne State College during the academic year of 1938-1939 to earn a teaching certificate. In the 1960s, she returned to Wayne State to complete her degree and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1973. Mrs. Keller taught in several one-room schools and the Beemer elementary school during her career. In 2013, she was recognized for her excellence in teaching on the One Room, One Teacher Honor Wall at the University of Nebraska – Kearney.

Vi was united in holy matrimony to Leon J Siemers in June 1942 and this union was blessed with four daughters. Mr. Siemers preceded her in death in 1963. She married La Verne Keller in 1967 and resided with him in Wisner until his death in 1992, after which she moved to Norfolk, NE.
Vi was active in the St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wisner and Our Savior Lutheran Church in Norfolk, NE. She had a deep and lasting faith that guided her throughout her life. She was also a member of the Nebraska State Education Association. Vi enjoyed square dancing, playing cards, and socializing with her many friends.

Mrs. Keller is survived by her daughter Terri Gay Monk of St Louis, Missouri, 4 grandchildren and one great grandson. She was preceded in death by 3 daughters, Patsy Jean Marr of Sedona, AZ, Jerri Lynn Martin of Overland Park, Kansas, and Sandra Jo Krugman of Lincoln Nebraska. Her parents and her three siblings, Verlyn Wegner, Verdon Wegner, and Vione Kuhn also preceded her in death.
